*small is all* Application at South Shore

* THIS IS A PROGRAM APPLICATION* - actual program runs from October 6 to November 17th every Tuesday 4:30-6:30pm! Please read full description for details. *small is all* is a 7- week nature-based art program for Chicago youth ages 10-15. This program supports young people in growing their love for earth and Land stewardship using a variety of art and creative practices. Throughout *small is all* we learn about local Environmental Justice issues, organizers, artists, scientists, and more. *small is all* invites young people to learn about the ancestral wisdom of nature, and investigate the local ecosystem and social relationships in the world around them through art. Each season we have 1 or 2 field trips outside of scheduled program dates (generally Saturdays).Throughout the season we explore planting and learning about seeds, making art using recycled materials, and visiting natural areas (such as farms, gardens or parks) in or near the Chicago area. This season we also hope to have special guests who are farmers, land stewards, local organizers, and more. In the past, art making has included learning how to quilt/sew, using clay, paper mache, bookbinding, and more.This fall *small is all* will meet weekly on Tuesdays from 4:30-6:30pm at South Shore Cultural Center for 7 weeks (Tuesday October 6th to Novmeber 17th). We will also be taking 2 field trips on Saturday (dates TBD). Youth who participate in at least 5 weeks of *small is all* will be paid a stipend of $300 at the end of the program. Applicants must live in the City of Chicago and be a US citizen between 10 and 15 years old. Please note: it is Chicago Park District policy that youth submit a W9 and create an iSupplier account in order to receive their stipend. This will be required to complete registration if admitted into the program. Ideal candidates are those who:- Are creative and/or have an interest in the arts- Enjoy being outdoors or are interested in exploring nature- Work well with others and in groups- Can commit to the *small is all* scheduleApplying only expresses interest in the program and does not guarantee admission into the *small is all* program. If you/your child is accepted into *small is all*, a follow-up email will be sent within a week of the application closing date.
