This six-week beginner wheel class introduces students to the fundamentals of throwing on the pottery wheel. Students will learn basic techniques including centering clay, pulling walls, shaping simple forms (cups, bowls, and cylinders), and best practices around the Gilpin clay studio. Each week builds progressively, with demonstrations, guided practice, and individual instruction. The course also covers basic trimming, glazing, and the firing process.As each class builds upon itself, it is not recommended to miss class, especially the first class that will provide an overview of the mutli-step process to crafting ceramics. No prior experience is required—just curiosity and a willingness to get a little muddy.Instructor: Aden HockExperience Level: BeginnerFees: $160. Included are class instruction, glazes, firings (both gas and electric), open studio (When Community Center is open and no other clay class in Studio), 25# clay. Additional clay may be purchased from Community Center: 25#/ $20–25, depending on type of clay.
