Lifeguard Training at Parkway Aquatic Center (17 yrs - Adult) MUST ATTEND ALL CLASSES October 10, 2025 4pm-9pm October 11, 2025 10am-7:30pm October 12, 2025 10am-7:30pm October 17, 2025 4pm-9pm October 18, 2025 9am-4:15m October 19, 2025 9am-6:15pm Cost of class is $200 plus 25% fee for non-residents. Fee includes certification, pocket mask, hip pack.You will receive a $100 refund once hired as a Lifeguard with the City of Chula Vista at Parkway Pool. You must be 16 years old to apply. SCHOLARSHIP INFO from Friends of Chula Vista Parks & Recreation HERE and from San Diego County Aquatic Council HERE This class will teach potential lifeguards the skills and knowledge to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies, providing the minimum certifications for employment with the City of Chula Vista as a Lifeguard I (starting pay is $18.93/hour).Students that pass this class will receive the following American Red Cross certifications: Lifeguard Training and First Aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, and Title 22: First Aid for Public Safety Personnel. LOCATION: Parkway Aquatic Center, 385 Park Way, Chula Vista, 91910 Phone: (619) 409-1985 Attendance at all class sessions is mandatory. NO EXCEPTIONS PREREQUISITES:The following skills will be evaluated on the first day of class:1. Proof of age (Must be 17 by the last day of class).2. Complete a swim-tread-swim sequence without stopping to rest: • Jump into the water and totally submerge, resurface then swim 150 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both. (Swimming on the back or side is not permitted. Swim goggles are allowed) • Maintain position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes by treading water using only the legs • Swim 50 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both3. Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds: • Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. (The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed). • Submerge to a depth of 7 - 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object. • Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point, holding the object at the surface with both hands and keeping the face out at or near the surface. • Exit the water without using a ladder or steps. NO REFUNDS/CREDITS:Students may be asked to leave for various reasons, including but not limited to: not passing the prerequisites, tardy attendance, absence, not completing homework, failing practice skills, not demonstrating maturity/responsibility. Fees will not be refunded, transferred or credited unless hired by the City of Chula Vista. Once hired, you will receive a $100 refund. BRING TO ALL CLASSES: Swim suit, goggles, towels, warm clothing, printed textbooks and materials OR laptop/tablet with textbooks downloaded.
