Newport Youth Crew

Description

A free, year-long program for teens who want to make a real impact in their community, learn life-long skills, and collaborate with peers.  FREE!!! The Newport Youth Crew meets once a week. We talk about stuff like leadership, public speaking, careers, volunteering and what's happening in our community.  We'll talk about ways that we can help our community and plan activities to help make it the best place to live possible.  We’ll tackle these things together, with good food and good company. Registration happens now through the beginning of October.  Schedule: (1) - weekly meet up, on Wednesdays starting Oct 7 from 3:00pm - 4:30pm at the Newport Recreation Center.  Parents please arrange for teens to ride the school district bus from the Middle School to the Recreation Center.  Contact the school for specifics. Food provided for free at each meet-up.  Please let us know if your teen has allergies.   (1 - 2) activities per month, dates and times TBD.  These activities will be directed by the interest of the teen group.   Once or twice a month, NYC hits the road. We’ll take on a volunteer project in our own community, or visit local businesses, organizations, and government branches to get hands-on experience behind the scenes. and  (1) - trip which is an incentive (all fun).  Based on participation and activities will be selected by teens, i.e. movies, Corvallis trip, etc.   In Summer 2027, we'll connect you with local businesses where you can shadow real workers and try out skills in actual workplaces. And by the end of the year, you and your crew design and lead your OWN action project from start to finish. You’ll leave NYC with meaningful volunteer hours, a bunch of real world skills, and friendships to last a lifetime.
