Description

Comfortable Pots, Glazes that MoveIn this six-week class we will make pots that are easy, pots that we have already integrated the process. For some, that will be bowls, others may more readily make mugs. Our pots, made quickly and with ease, will be decorated with glazes that move. These variegated glazes typically are multi-colored glazes and may be streaked, mottled, stippled. They move because of the melting of particular combinations of ceramic materials. To produce this colorful effect we can combine glazes, with attention to overlaps and glaze thickness. We can add ceramic materials that promote the melting process, like whiting or rutile. And we can create textures on the pots that encourage flowing and pooling of a glaze. We can control to a large degree this variegation that occurs within the melting of glazes. And we can be open to surprises that happen when ceramic materials melt. Some clay experience needed for this class.Times: 9:30โ€“12 noonDates: Saturdays, October 17-November 21Instructor: Steve BriggsCost: $175 - Included are class instruction, glazes, firings, (both gas and electric), open studio (when the Community Center is open and no other clay class in Studio), 25# clay.Additional clay may be purchased from the Clay Studio: 25#/$20-30, depending on type of clay.Instructor: Steve Briggs
