Sensory Friendly Summer Camp

Description

Spend a week investigating the natural world using your senses of sight, sound, smell and touch. Experience the Sensory Friendly Trail and enjoy learning about the plants and animals that live in the Watchung Reservation, Union County’s largest park. Develop an appreciation for the natural world through nature walks, hands-on activities, interactive games, scavenger hunts, arts & crafts, and stories. Meet live animals, spend time outside each day and experience all the beauty that nature has to offer. Eligibility Requirements for All Participants Union County residents Have a documented disability Does not engage in threatening or aggressive behaviors. Are able to independently use the toilet and feed themselves. We also welcome participants who may require prompting or re-direction to stay focused and on-task. Please be advise Form 5 must be completed by every participants to confirm they are medically cleared to participate in the program. Medical forms must be received by June 15th via email at opdsn@ucnj.org The Sensory Friendly Summer Camp at Trailside Program is not appropriate for campers who: • Have a history of fleeing or aggressive/threatening behavior.• Require restraints to help stop behaviors.• Are unable to independently use the toilet or feed themselves Please note:  Application does not guarantee entry to the camp. Initial application will be online, followed by interview(s) prior to acceptance to the program. It will be at the discretion of the Sensory Friendly Summer Camp Administration whether or not they can meet the campers’ level of assistance necessary.
