Level 6: Swimming and Skill Proficiency - PERSONAL WATER SAFETY (:50 min. classes) Prerequisites: Must have passed level 5. Level 6 now has 3 different options (no level 7 anymore). These options include: 1) Personal Water Safety, 2) Fundamentals of Diving, 3) Jr. Lifeguard Readiness, and 4) Fitness Swimmer. Refines the strokes so students swim them with ease, efficiency, power and smoothness over greater distances. Level 6 is designed with "menu" options. Each of these options focus on preparing students to participate in more advanced courses, such as Water Safety Instructor and Lifeguard Training. Level 6 (:50 min. classes) - Personal Safety Prerequisites: Level 5: Fundamental Aquatic Skills certificate or demonstrate all completion requirements in Level 5 Skills required to pass onto next level... 1. Increase endurance while performing the following strokes: Front crawl-100 yards, Back crawl-100 yards, Butterfly-50 yards, Elementary backstroke-50 yards, Breaststroke-50 yards, Sidestroke-50 yards 2. Demonstrate the following turns while swimming: Front crawl open turn, Backstroke open turn, Sidestroke open turn, Front flip turn, Backstroke flip, Butterfly Turn, Breaststroke Turn 3. Tread water with hands , in deep water (5 minutes) 4. Tread water, kicking only, in deep water (2 minutes) 5. Demonstrate a feet-first surface dive and retrieve and object from a depth of 7 feet 6. Demonstrate the H.E.L.P. position (2 minutes) 7. Demonstrate the huddle position (2 minutes) 8. Demonstrate a survival float in deep water (5 minutes) 9. Demonstrate a back float in deep water (5 minutes) 10. Demonstrate survival swimming (10 minutes) 11. Swim while clothed, using any type of stroke (50 yards) 12. Demonstrate self-self-rescue techniques while clothed 13. Discuss basic safety rules for open water environment 14. Discuss basic safety rules for boating. 15. Successfully complete the following exit skills assessment: 1. Swim 500 yards continuously using strokes in the following order: front crawl, 100 yards; back crawl 100 yards; breaststroke, 50 yards, elementary backstroke, 50 yards; sidestroke, 50 yards; butterfly, 50 yards; and choice of stroke, 100 yards. 2. Jump into deep water, Demonstrate a survival float for 5 minutes, roll onto back and demonstrate a back float for 5 minutes. 3. Demonstrate a feet-first surface dive and retrieve and object from a depth of 7 feet, return to the surface and return to the starting point. You may only sign up your children for ONE LESSON until they pass the appropriate level. Lessons meet every weekday for two weeks.
