Sites Seldom Seen: Stickney Run
Stickney Run Conservation Area, 3216 State Park Rd, McHenry, IL 60050, USA
Description
Stickney Run is a wonderful site with lots to explore and many amenities near the public entrance. For this off trail adventure we will be hiking the lesser known area just south of the trail system devoted to plants and animals. Not only are there majestic oaks and endangered species, but rare geological features as well, including hill prairies, eskers and graminoid fens. Signs of human history can also be found, such as apple orchards and a pioneer cemetery. Participants receive directions and meeting location after registration is processed. Be prepared to hike more than 2 miles over uneven terrain and small hills and through seasonal wet conditions.
